The Largest Technical University in Sweden Adopts IronCAD

500 IronCAD licenses to be used by teachers, students and other employees

ATLANTA, GA. March 10th, 2005 – IronCAD, a leading provider of 3D Design Productivity Solutions announced today that The Royal Institute of Technology, KTH, in Sweden has acquired IronCAD for usage in their educational programs.  KTH is the largest and most renown technical university in Sweden, producing one-third of Sweden's BSc and MSc engineers. Over 500 students are trained yearly in the methodologies and usage of 3D-CAD for mechanical engineering. It is planned for all students, teachers and staff to have their own individual license as long as they are students at or employed by the university.

”As the interface in IronCAD differs from other 3D-CAD systems on the market we see it as an interesting complement to the other systems we already use in our education,” says Lasse Wingardh, Associate Professor Computer Systems for Design and Manufacturing. “IronCAD uses a different base methodology (drag and drop based dynamic modeling with optional parametric's and constraints) to and thereby effectively create 3D-geometry.  We believe that this methodology as well as the short learning curve will appeal to many people,” he continues. “Students are demanding customers – it is up to us to supply access to and competence on a wide range of CAD-systems. Then everybody can access and find the right 3D-CAD for their own needs. With IronCAD we hope that more of our students, teachers and staff will start to use and propagate 3D-CAD."

"When The Royal Institute of Technology selected IronCAD as a part of their education curriculum we saw that as yet another confirmation of the establishment of IronCAD,” Lars Romson with Solidmakarna says. “We are already represented at several institutes, universities and colleges throughout Sweden but it feels particularly exiting when KTH shows us their confidence. They are very experienced in the area of 3D-CAD and are especially demanding when bringing in new products, they must bring something new to the education process.” he continues. “Now we will deliver what we always do – something more than just a 3D-CAD package – a tool that provides students, teachers and staff the fastest and easiest way to 3D!”

Shaun Murphy, VP of Sales and Marketing at IronCAD, further adds: "Educational institutions from around the world are catching on to the alternative that IronCAD provides to today's parametric history based systems.  In the educational situation you have the perfect case where students are creating new designs without the years of experience needed to anticipate how their model or assembly may change during the design process.  This makes it very hard for them to know how to manage the parent child relationships required by today's systems.  IronCAD is free from those concerns so it is the perfect tool for this kind of environment."
