Summary
Communicating to others was not such a chore – I either generated a 2D-section drawing or a layout, or animation illustrating how something worked.
In fact the whole concept of animation became incredibly valuable because a design like this is not easily represented on paper but an animation clearly shows every detail, and in a way that's easy for people to relate to – because it looks real.
Thankfully IronCAD makes it less of a chore by automating the production of views and by making annotation/dimensioning straightforward and easy.

"Which CAD system to use? My consultancy owns a few and I have used many in my career but it seemed clear that because I would be designing, and that meant changing parts often, I was going to need something flexible and above all
- fast. The next day I sat down in front of IronCAD, and by the end of that day I had the rotor assembly complete and beginnings of the
'core' engine." - Simon Floyd
