IronCAD Donates Software to Canadian Robotics Team ATLANTA, GA. November 29, 2006 – IronCAD today announced it will sponsor Canadian team FESSTronics, Team 1680, for the 2007 robotics competition organized by FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology). Students will receive full-versions of IronCAD software to design this year’s competition robot that will compete in the Waterloo Regional, Canadian National and World Championship competitions (located in Atlanta, GA). FESSTronics team members will use IronCAD to create new parts based on components from the pre-approved FRC Robotics Design System lists. Once established, different robot variations can be built by dragging and dropping parts onto the IronCAD scene. This allows team members to test multiple designs before building a final prototype. “With IronCAD, the FESSTronics team has a powerful, easy to use design program. I think it’s incredible that IronCAD allows these students, which have no prior exposure to computerized design programs, to build these complex designs with little or no training,” says Brad Ziegler, a teacher at Fort Erie Secondary School and lead mentor. FESSTronics Team 1680 placed second at the Canadian Nationals and 41st at the World Championship during 2006 season. Robots from last year’s competition to had collect softballs and place them in one of two goals located at each corner of the paying field. Or by shooting ball thru a target 10 feet high. Each year FIRST releases a new game in the first week of January, Teams have six weeks to design, manufacturing parts, assemble, test and ship of a robot to compete at regional events.
