Outline · [ Standard ] · Linear+ How do you deal with IronCAD's axis orientation

A question for those who share models with users of the other major CAD packages -
How do you deal with IC's default orientation being different than the other packages.

Solidworks and Inventor both have the Y axis up by default.
IronCAD has the Z axis up.
(Incidentally, SW and IV don't use the same "front", although they do use the same "up".)

So when a model is made using the 'natural up', it comes in on the side when exported/imported to/from another package.

How do you deal with this? Do you choose to change your working habits to make a better presentation to your customers? Do you choose ignore the issue?
And what problems does your solution cause?

Hi Brian,
You know this has never been mentioned to me before and I send files all the time to SWX and others. I haven't experienced and repercussions for it.
However, if this is the case then I would simply continue to model as I always do and when I'm ready to send files, rotate all the files to the correct axis. orientation.

To be honest, not sure why SWS and IV chose the Y axis for up, Z makes more sense. I can only assume its because they rely heavily on sketching, just a guess.

You could always change the scene and save it as a template. We had issue back in the day when we changed around the meaning. The Z up was the most logical and seemed correct to most.

How would you reorientate the Axis system?

I was just meaning you can rotate the scene to the desired direction, but you are correct that you can't really reorient the axis system.
