New Features Included in IRONCAD/INOVATE XG 2009 PU1

Usability Enhancements:

  • Double-Click Fit Scene - Ability to double-click in the scene background to automatically fit the scene geometry. This eliminates the need for keyboard short-cuts and/or time locating command buttons to fully display the scene geometry. Simply double-click using the "middle" mouse and the 3D scene will fit the view (Note: This is also supported in the CAXA Draft environment).
  • Hot-Key Edit Sketch and Edit Feature Support - Improvements have been made to support Hot-Key edit on sketch and features to increase design productivity by reducing additional mouse-clicks to access the editing commands. The default assignment is unassigned but can be set in the Keyboard customization under the common category. For example: Assigning the command to "E" can provide a quick access to the Edit Feature properties in the design process.
  • Selection Highlight More Visible - During commands that require user input selections in the scene, mouse-over highlights on the elements are now more vibrant to help denote the current selected item. This capability make it easier to determine the correct element prior to the selection.
  • Command Preview Highlight Improvements - The preview of commands such as blend, chamfer, shell, draft, etc. have been improved to aid in setting the correct values while in the commands. The fast preview display updates automatically to denote the resulting shape from the command. This allows the ability to understand the resulting change prior to finishing the command.
  • Command Right-Click Action Options - To improve the productivity in the design process, new right-click options have been added to the property browser commands to accept, cancel, and preview the command. Prior versions, these actions existed only in the property browser which changed the focus of the designer from the parts/assemblies to the browsers. The new options keep the focus on the design and minimizes the mouse movements.
  • Parent-Child Query Display - In "Structured Parts", options have been added to query the part features to locate and display the parent-child relationships. This aids in understanding the relationships of the features when modifications are performed.
  • Mouse-Wheel Zoom Improvements - Improvements have been made with the mouse-wheel zoom to support a smooth and continuous zoom action. These improvements reduce the camera actions by avoiding jumping effects normally caused by the wheel-zoom action.
  • Unification of Property Browser and Command Browser UI - The legacy command browser UI (mainly for surface commands on "Innovative Parts") has been unified into the new property browser to allow simplification and an easier learning curve for new users.
  • Options to Perform Statistics on Imported Data After Import - New options have been added to allow statistics checks on the imported data automatically. This improves the overall design process by detecting potential data discrepancies early in the design process. This option can be located on the "Import Options" dialog.
  • Anchor Behavior Defaults for Imported Parts Option - Options have been added to allow the ability to specify the default anchor behavior on imported parts to either Fixed (Disallow Drag) or Drag Freely in Space. This helps define the desired behavior on the imported parts which can also reduce accidental modification from occurring on imported data. This option can be located on the "Import Options" dialog.
  • Large Assembly "Import as Reference" - New options have been added to import data as reference data. This capability reduces the memory footprint on imported data by only storing necessary information to refer to the imported data (geometry faces, points, and edges). Reference data is similar to the combine option, however the parts are retained as individual parts. this allows only the individual part data to be loaded into memory when they are referenced versus the full assembly data when using the combine option. (Note: Reference data does not support direct editing modifications.)
  • Search Options for Kernel and Floating Features - New search criteria have been added to locate parts by kernel type and to locate floating features within parts. By allowing this search criteria, data can be located that may hinder performance during the design and appropriate actions can be performed to improve the overall usability of the parts and assemblies.
  • Use Scene Name for Drawing Name Default - The application has been configured to use the first projected scene file name as the default name of the ICD when performing the save function in the drawing. This improves productivity by providing the default common file name automatically which eliminates the time spent manually typing the name.
  • Selection Visibility in the Scene Browser Improvements - Improvements have been made to increase the visibility of selected items within the scene browser. When selecting objects in the scene, the scene browser will improve the visibility of the the selected object (Blue background highlight in all conditions versus the previous light grey selections).
  • Default Template Locations for Images and Catalogs - New default browse locations have been added for images and catalogs. Commonly used locations can be set for these types to improve the browsing process when loading images and catalogs during the design process.
  • Copy and Paste Support in Property Browser Input Fields - Copy and paste operations(Ctrl-C/V) between input fields in the property browser are now supported. This improves the design process by allowing data to be reused between different command operations.
  • Multiple Part/Assembly Drag and Drop in Scene Browser - Support has been added to allow the ability to multiple select parts and assemblies and drag & drop within the scene browser. These improves the ability to define and arrange the assembly structure in an efficient process.
  • Display Performance Improvements Using Hide by Size - A new "Hide" option has been added to hide parts that are smaller than a specified size. This allows the ability to quickly hide smaller parts that may not be necessary during the overall large assembly design. Overall graphical performance and visual quality can be improved through the use of this command.
  • Cosmetic Thread Utility - Under the Annotation Ribbon bar, a new option has been added to allow the creation of cosmetic threads on existing circular geometry. This capability produces a graphical representation of the thread in 3D and creates detailed thread and callout information in the 2D technical drawing. By default, the tool is populated with standard thread data that can be customized by editing the cosmetic thread text file delivered to users application data folder locations. In addition to the standard thread information, custom inputs can be applied directly in the cosmetic threads command browser.
  • Measurement Tools - New measurements capabilities have been added to allow the ability to temporarily measure geometry elements (like standard measurements, face surface area, min/max distance, edge length). When this is enabled, the user can create measurements using existing tools and newly added options. When the command is disabled, the measurements are removed to prevent cluttered information developing in the designed model. Area and Length calculations support the ability to multiple select to return the combined total values.

Modeling Enhancements:

  • Sketch - Ability to Select Hidden 3D Edges in the Sketch - During sketch editing in "Structured" parts, the ability to directly reference 3D Geometry when applying constraints has been added. Improvements have been made to allow selection of the hidden 3D geometry that will aid in the design aspects of the 2D Sketch.
  • Tools Catalog Spring Tool Generation Improvements - Improvements have been made in the Helix Spring Tool in the Tools Catalog to reduce the model regeneration times and improve creation times for large spring shapes.

General Enhancements:

  • BOM Support for Calculated Quantity - A new option has been added to the BOM Creation types to support a Parts Only BOM where the quantity calculation includes the assembly quantity values (user specified quantities).  This will calculate the part quantity total based on the user set values in the parent assemblies.
  • Snap To Geometry Points Default Option - A new option has been a in the drawing environment when creating SmartDimension. In the Property Browser, a new check-box has been added to also include geometry points in the default "Any" selection state. This gives designers options on how to control the SmartDimension behavior. For example: Select this option on to allow snap to quadrant points when selecting on circluar edges.
  • Support for Window 7 OS - IRONCAD/INOVATE XG 2009 PU1 officially supports the Windows 7 OS running Professional and Ultimate versions (Home version is not supported).

CAXA Draft Improvements:

  • Improved Performance in Large Assembly View Creation - Improvements have been made to speed up the view creation on large assembly data.
  • Ability to Snap to Silhouette Projections - Support for dimensioning to silhouette projected entities has been added to improve the detailing capability of CAXA Draft.
  • Ability to Set Default Template - In CAXA Draft, selecting the File - New dialog will allow the ability to set the default template to use when using the quick action to create a new document.
  • Ability to Set Default View Projection Method - Options have been added to set the default view projection method for standard view creation. First and Third angle can be specified in the options and will update the default standard view creation dialog automatically to reflect the setting.
  • View Projection Defaults for Setting the View Scale - Users can specify the default view scale method to improve the layout capabilities. For example: The user can specify the view creation to be 1:1 by default.
  • 64-Bit User Settings Storage Support - CAXA Draft on a 64-Bit OS will now properly store the users application settings properly.
