Bespoke Process Equipment Manufacturing with Axium Process Ltd

Axium Process Ltd., a longtime IronCAD customer based in the UK, has been using IronCAD’s design solutions to power its innovative approach to bespoke process equipment manufacturing. This write-up showcases our ongoing partnership and highlights how IronCAD’s flexible, intuitive design tools help Axium Process deliver precision-engineered systems under tight timelines and complex constraints. Together, Axium Process and IronCAD continue to demonstrate how smart design technology can drive efficiency, creativity, and excellence in industrial equipment manufacturing.

Bespoke Process Equipment Example: Filtration Plant

One such returning customer is in the dairy and food industry, which has received a number of products from us in recent years. One example is a filtration plant used in the process of creating whey protein products. This product was designed entirely in IronCAD with a challenging timescale and very challenging space constraints for the final site of the equipment and for introducing the equipment to site. The facility was a working processing plant with daily production targets to maintain, therefore access to the site was restricted to the product being fitted through doorways and up through hatchways in the floor to be sited on a second floor. Once in the location, the equipment had to fit around existing structures such as pillars and pipework into very tight space constraints.

This project, with the help of IronCAD, was delivered with only one project engineer and one CAD engineer within a timeframe of 14 weeks from initial PO to the completed unit being delivered to site.

The design incorporates several pumps and membrane filtration units, and a network of instrumentation and valves to monitor the process – all mounted onto a stainless steel frame, with freestanding tanks located in close proximity to store product.

Important considerations for the design included:

  • Mounting all equipment correctly such as ensuring:
    • No air traps.
    • Flow meters have adequate straight lengths of flow before and after the meters.
    • Temperature probes are positioned into the flow.
  • Ensuring all items have sufficient access for maintenance.
  • Allowing access to the manufacturing team to be able to assemble it, having tool and welding access.
  • Site location constraints.
  • Delivery to site and transportation constraints.
  • Weight and Centre of gravity.
  • Strength and rigidity of the assembly.

Why IronCAD

Although all CAD systems can assist with solving the above issues with any design, IronCAD comes into its own when it comes to the speed and ease with which things can be tried and modified if they do not work out, it frees up the engineers to try new ideas quickly and prove the concept in minutes instead of hours or days.

This gives the engineers and the customer confidence and provides the manufacturing team with the largest window possible to produce the end product with confidence that it will go together as seamlessly as possible under tight scheduling constraints.
