On Wednesday, March 11th, 2026, the campus of Georgia Tech was buzzing with the energy of future engineers and entrepreneurs for the K-12 InVenture Prize, an event organized by CEISMC (Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics, and Computing). Our mission? To judge the prestigious IronCAD Mechanical Design Award. We met many bright young minds. We judged seven Elementary and Middle School teams. These included Climate Pack, Tweet Treats, Sorty, Portable Sea-Life Saver, Spider Stoppers, MediFlow, and Auto Door. While every team showed talent, one project truly blew us away…

Meet the Winner: Climate Pack
The Middle School team, Climate Pack, earned the top spot. They didn’t just have a good idea; they had a complete mechanical vision. The team designed a solar and battery-powered backpack. This “Climate Pack” regulates temperature for people in extreme heat.
The design features four tubes that blow cool air directly onto the user’s body. While they originally built it for archeologists in extreme temperatures, it has many uses. It can keep artifacts safe or even chill your favorite beverages.
Advanced Design and Use of CAD
What set Climate Pack apart? Their technical skill. They didn’t just show us a sketch. They presented drawings, CAD models, and a prototype. We even got to see a VR display of their product!
The team also thought about the future of manufacturing. By moving from 3D-printed parts to mass production, they can cut costs by 70%. This makes their life-saving tool both durable and affordable. Their grasp of drafting and mechanical design was simply professional.
